Why does the battery of my A33 not charge when the AC adapter is plugged in?

It is possible for the battery of the A33 to become so low that recharging does not take place when connected to the AC adapter.

 
1. Unplug the AC adapter and unplug the DC plug from the A33. 
2. Slide the power switch (located on the right side of the A33, under the flap) to OFF and allow to sit for 10 to 15 seconds. 
3. Slide the switch back to ON. 
4. Connect the AC adapter again and allow to charge for 45 minutes or more.  The red charging indicator on the top of the unit should come on during this time. 
5. With the unit partially charged, it should power on using the Power button on top of the unit.  Continue charging the battery until the full charge is reached (when the red charging indicator goes off.)
